The Šariš region will come alive again on TV screens. In recent days, a popular show about cycling was filmed in our region, which will introduce viewers to the beauties of the Shariš nature in the Čergov Mountains, interesting parts of the international cycling route Eurovelo 11 and unique places that are worth discovering. The Cyclopotulky team visited several locations, captured the atmosphere of the region and showed that Šariš really has a lot to offer to cyclists.
We will wait for a while for the actual broadcast, but you can already look forward to wanderings full of views, history, regional attractions and inspiration for trips in the Šariš region.
The town of Veľký Šariš and its past and present landmarks
Cyclopotulky started in the city Veľký Šariš, mainly known for Šariš Castle, which towers over the town in its full glory and is visible from afar. We had the opportunity to peek into the interior Chapels of St. Kunhuta and discover its history. A pleasant discovery for us was that both Šariš Castle and the Chapel of St. Kunhuta were built in approximately the same period.
An important point for cyclists on the Eurovelo 11 route are also ponds in Veľký Šariš, where we then moved. We were greeted by sunshine, photogenic cyclomost Sarus, calm water surface and many different attractions for children and adults. Whether you are cycling for sport or your goal is a quiet fishing trip, the town of Veľký Šariš has a lot to offer.
Oscar City as our second stop
The next stop along the Torysa River was the historic Sabinov - a town famous for the film The Corsair Shop and a well-preserved square with townhouses. The cameras captured not only the historical beauty of the city centre, but also the pleasant cycling infrastructure that makes the area an increasingly attractive place.
Did you know that you can have your own commemorative coin minted in Sabinov ? All information about this activity will be gladly provided by the workers at the Cultural Information Centre, which is located at the memorial statue of Jozef Króner.
Road and mountain biking - this and much more is offered by the village of Drienica
The route then headed to the recreation area Drienica under the slopes of the Čergov Mountains. The surrounding countryside offered beautiful panoramas and quiet stretches ideal for cycling. But if you're looking for an adrenaline rush, there's also a wide range of trail routes of varying difficulty.
Apart from cycling, you have the opportunity to see the Čergov Mountains from a bird's eye view. This experience is offered by the raised bridge over the Old Quarry, to which a mini ferrata leads. A pleasant forest backdrop, a place to barbecue and relax in the bosom of nature is a popular destination for cyclists of all types.
Open-air museum of wooden churches of the Carpathian Wooden Way in the village of Ľutina
An important stop was also the village of Ľutina, known for its Greek-Catholic basilica and pilgrimage site on the mountain above the village.
The rich area full of history, miniature wooden churches from Slovakia and the border region and the Wooden Church of St. Rodina with a panoramic view of the peaks of the Čergov Mountains added a unique dimension to the filming. The importance of linking cycling with the opportunity to explore the culture, history and unique features found in our region was confirmed.
For cyclists it will certainly not be news that the village of Ľutina is an important part of the St. Mary's Pilgrimage. It is the finishing point of the first stage and the starting point of the second stage of the journey.
Views, relaxation, sport and more than 300 year old linden tree - welcome to Lipany
A group of cycling enthusiasts continued from Ľutina to the city Lipany. The gently ascending section of the Eurovelo 11 cycle route offered a leisurely cycling pace with views of the undulating landscape below Čergov. It is not for nothing that cyclists consider this route to be one of the most beautiful in eastern Slovakia.
The city of seven lime trees and endless experiences offered us more than meets the eye. Above the city on the tower Lookout tower at Balážka, we can find relaxation opportunities in the water world and the heart of the city is known for more than 3OO year old lime tree, which is shrouded in legend. The icing on the cake is the pleasant energy that pulsates from the historic linden tree. It gave the cyclists energy and then they set off for their final destination.
Krivany interwoven with the Sharis dialect, folklore and traditions
The last stop on the route of the Cyclopotuliek after Eurovel 11 was the village Krivany. The place of birth and work of perhaps the most famous enthusiast of Šariš - Ján Lazorík took us back in time.
V Centre of Folk Culture we have discovered traditional aspects of the life of the ancient Sharish people. How their dwellings used to look like, what they used to do for a living and what tools they used to make their lives easier was presented to us from an absolutely authentic point of view. In this part of the Šariš region, it sounds exactly as it once did - folk-like, with love and purely in the Šariš way.
