At the foot of the castle hill in Veľký Šariš A cycle route runs along this route, seamlessly linking the towns of Prešov and Veľký Šariš and the allotment garden settlement in Šarišské Michaľany. The route features road signs, cycle shelters and a bridge that is unique in Slovakia.
The pride of EuroVelo 11 in Šariš
The Sarus, a historic-style wooden cycle bridge, spans the River Torysa and features design elements reminiscent of a castle. The designers took their inspiration from the structure towering above it Šariš Castle. On the middle support of the bridge a resting cantilevered lookout to the north and south side is proposed. The bridge is 84 metres long and 3 metres wide.
The cycle route leading to the wooden bridge is surrounded by nature and runs alongside a stream. At the edge of Veľký Šariš, the cycle route runs alongside a rest area Ponds, which is a popular destination for cyclists and families with children.
The five-kilometre section from Veľký Šariš to Šarišské Michaliany is part of the project EuroVelo 11, which link major European destinations across the continent.

The Sarus Cycle Bridge is freely accessible to the public and can be reached on foot, by bike or even during a leisurely stroll. As it forms part of the EuroVelo 11 cycle route, it makes a suitable stop for cyclists on a trip around the Veľký Šariš area.
Entry to the bridge is free of charge and no booking or ticket is required. You can visit the bridge on your own without a guide. The surrounding area offers a natural setting ideal for a short stop and a rest.
