Recreation and relaxation zone of Veľký Šariš - „Rybníky“
The ponds in Veľký Šariš started to be built during the years 2004 to 2006.
Originally, 3 ponds were built, but during a severe flood in 2010, pond 3 was completely covered with silt and after its cleaning, pond 4 was built at the same time.
The gravel pits are a system of water areas used for fishing purposes. The individual ponds are marked with a sign with the number and name of the fishing area.
The site is a well-known location as part of a crossroads of birding routes. Specifically, birds migrating from Africa via the Apennine and Peloponnesian peninsulas with birds from the Israeli-Turkish route.
The ponds are also famous for the fact that another well-known route passes by them, namely EUROVELO11, a cycle path that leads to the pride of the city cyclo-bridge „SARUS“.
Around the ponds there is a possibility to barbecue on the reserved places, as well as to rest thanks to the benches.
The ponds are popular at any time of year for family walks.
