Čergovský Minčol National Nature Reserve

The protected area of Čergovský Minčol has a 5th degree of protection and a 3rd degree of protection around the reserve. The NPR extends into three cadastral territories and three districts: the district of Bardejov - Livovská Huta, the district of Sabinov - Brezovička and the district of Stará Ľubovňa - the village of Kyjov. The reserve was declared for the protection of the typical mountain Carpathian flora with the representation of Eastern Carpathian elements and forest communities of the highest altitudes of the Čergov Mountains.

A very nice hike to the highest point of Čergov - Minčol with an altitude of 1157.2 metres is a popular tourist destination, where tourists and non-tourists from four districts - Stara Ľubovna, Bardejov, Sabinov and Prešov meet every year under the name of Meeting of Four Districts at Minčol. The route is, with the exception of two more difficult steep places, relatively easy, as a large part of it runs on an asphalt road. It is nine kilometres long and takes about three hours to complete. At the beginning it is worth turning off to the remains of the imposing Kamenický castle with a beautiful circular view.

The route to Minčol Hill passes through nice forests and offers pleasant places to rest. One of them is just outside the village at Kamenica Farm, where you can buy, among other things, 100 % sheep's cheese and bryndza. Another resting place is at the shelter under Minčol, above which there is a spring, but a bench with wonderful views at the top will certainly serve you well for a rest. A very impressive sight is the Falcon Rock towering above the valley, which is well overlooked throughout the whole trip. Panoramic views continue along the entire ridge up to the top of Minčol, from where you can also see Kamenický hrad. From the top it is possible to continue northwards to Obručné, Čirč or Bardejov, or the other way along the ridge towards the Čergov chalet.
