Ski Makovica – a ski run in the Low Beskids
Ski Makovica (Ski/Sun area Makovica) is situated in Upper Šariš near the village of Nižná Polianka, halfway between Bardejov and Svidník. This resort in the Low Beskids boasts one proper run: a 950-metre-long red run – i.e. of medium difficulty – with a vertical drop of almost 190 metres. It is accessible directly from the main road, making it a good choice for a half-day’s skiing for residents of Bardejov and Svidník, as well as visitors from more distant parts of the region.
Ski slope and ski lift
The run is served by a ski lift, which has a bend just past the first pole. The run is reserved for skiers and snowboarders:
- length: 950 m,
- Difficulty: red (moderate difficulty),
- snowmaking: artificial snow, snow-making equipment directly on the slope,
- edited by: regular grooming by a snow groomer,
- lighting: The ski run is lit along its entire length.
According to the operator, the ideal capacity of the slope is approximately 50 skiers per kilometre of run. When snow conditions are good, a snow park is also set up at Makovica.
Who is Makovica suitable for?
The red-rated slope is particularly suitable for intermediate and experienced skiers and snowboarders. The resort also welcomes ski schools. Sledging on the slope is not permitted, but sledgers will find suitable hills in the surrounding area. Ski mountaineers may use the slope by prior arrangement; they must inform the ticket office in advance.
Refreshments and services
At the bottom station of the ski lift, there is a café serving home-cooked food and offering free Wi-Fi. Tickets are sold as time-based passes, and you can pay by card at the ticket office.

Tips for days out in the local area
You can combine a skiing trip to Makovica with a visit to Bardejov and the surrounding area or Bardejov Spa. On the other hand, it beckons Svidník and surroundings s The Military History Museum.
