Lačnov gorge – canyon. The Lačnov gorge (or canyon) was created by a stream which cut into the bedrock formed of dolomites and limestones thousands years ago. The gorge is about 2 km long with remarkable steep slopes and walls lining it along its entire length. The stream and weathering created bizarre rock formations on the high walls, which in places reach a height of up to 100 m. As the gorge is very narrow, rocks are only “one step” away. The most famous rocks include Mojžišov stĺp (the Moses’ Column) with a height of 60 m, Kamenná Baba (the Old Stone Woman) in the back of Červená skala (the Red Rock), Vrátnica (the Gatehouse) and Komín (the Chimney). In places where the Lačnov brook passes through the straits, riffles and waterfalls have been created. The “Lipovec karst” hides several smaller and larger caves. Adventure hunters should also visit the medieval castle Varhoška and the church buildings in the municipality of Lipovce, which are significant from an anthropogenic point of view. On the other side of the gorge you will find the village of Lačnov, where the tourist can admire original folk architecture in the recently declared monument reserve.
