The Lačnovská gorge or canyon was created by cutting a stream into the bedrock made of dolomites and limestones. The length of the canyon is approximately 2 km and it is particularly notable for the steep slopes and walls that line its entire length. The incision of the stream and subsequent weathering has created bizarre rock formations on the high walls, which in places reach heights of up to 100 m. The gorge is narrow and all the more interesting because the rocks are only „one step“ away from the visitor. Among the most famous are the Moses Column with a height of 60 m, Kamenná Baba in the back of the Red Rock, the rock eye of Vrátnica and the Chimney. Various large rapids and waterfalls have been formed where the Lacnovský brook crosses the narrows. In the rocks of the „Lipovec karst“ there are several smaller and larger caves, the Red Rock is remarkable, the remains of the medieval castle Varhoška and the church buildings in the village Lipovce, which is the gateway to the gorge, are again significant from the anthropogenic point of view. On the other side of the gorge you will find the village of Lačnov, where tourists can get acquainted with the original folk architecture in the recently declared conservation area.
