Wooden Greek-Catholic Church of St. Luke, Tročany

The wooden church in Tročany is dedicated to the Holy Apostle and Evangelist Luke. It was probably brought from the nearby village of Resov, as evidenced by the frames on the wooden beams and the commemorative inscription on the icon of the Crucifixion. It is probably the oldest wooden church of the Eastern Rite not only in Slovakia, but in the entire Carpathian region. According to the style of the temple, it clearly belongs to the 15th-16th century at the latest.
The temple is three-part, three-space, two-towered with three crosses. It is set on a low foundation. Two bells are suspended in the tower of the church. Above the tower there is a three-armed cross, above the nave there is an ornate single-armed cross and above the end of the sanctuary there is a simple single-armed cross.
In the temple there is an incomplete iconostasis, which ranks among the national cultural monuments. It has two rows and dates back to the 17th century. The Tsar's door, also called the royal, holy or main door, is in the centre of the iconostasis and leads into the sanctuary. There are several other rare icons in the church, painted on canvas on the sides of the iconostasis. The wooden church in Tročany was declared a national cultural monument in 1968. Various repairs of the church were carried out in 1897, 1933 and 1968. In 2010-2011, the church was completely repaired and restored within the framework of the project Rescue of wooden churches on the International Wooden Way, funded by the European Regional Development Fund.
