Water Tower, Moyzesova Street, Prešov, Slovakia

Water tower 300 m above sea level.

The water tower was designed by the architect Viliam Glasz (1882-1957), born in Segedin, Hungary. He settled in Prešov around 1910 and the tower is one of the first buildings he built in the city. It was built in the highest housing estate of Prešov in the first half of the 20th century as part of a water supply project.

The water tower offers a unique view

There was a reservoir with a volume of 350 cubic meters. The building, which is 29 m high, was later rebuilt and ceased to be used for its original purpose. A restaurant with a shop was built at the bottom and a glass viewing area was created at the top. It was unused for 23 years and fell into disrepair. Since 2013, it has been open to the public again as an observation tower and after climbing 135 steps you can enjoy a view of the whole of Prešov and sometimes even the High Tatras. You can also read about the Water Tower on Wikipedia. In Prešov, you can see several pomiatok: St. Nicholas Cathedral, Neptune's Fountain, Museum of Jewish Culture, Bosakova Bank, Florian Gate, Caraf's Prison, Rakoci Palace.
