Renaissance Curio Brezovica

The ground-floor cottage of irregular plan was built during the 16th-17th centuries. Archival reports from this period speak only of non-specific curiosities, the construction can be dated by architectural details - the vaulted vaults with cut-outs and drawn ridges, the stone portal with facets in the lining or other stone elements are typologically from the 16th century. The building was modified in the 18th century and three additions were made - a porch to the western wall, an entrance hall to the northern wall and a room to the eastern wall. At the same time, the facades were unified and the interior was also changed with the creation of a central large fireplace. From 1869, the orchard design is documented. At the turn of the 19th-20th century, after the extension of the entrance hall, the facades were again modified, the window and entrance openings, the flooring and the roofing were replaced. The cellar is entirely underground, the vaults in the basement are vaulted, plastered. The core of the ground floor consists of four rooms - in the north-west and south-east there are rooms with flat ceilings. The north-west room is covered by a vaulted vault with alternate sections with raised stucco ridges, and the south-west room with a vaulted vault with buttressed sections with prominent ridges. The porch, accessed from the south-west room, has a vaulted ceiling, while the hall and east extension have flat ceilings. Entrance openings with coffered frames are set in niches with segmental recesses and chamfered jambs, window openings are in similar niches. The access to the attic is interestingly designed, the stone double-armed staircase is situated in the thickness of the masonry, it is pierced by a small slit opening with an angled lining and is accessible by a stone portal with facets terminated by triangular noses. There is a similar, rather archaic stone link in the basement beneath the 18th-century atrium, where there is a secondary bricked-up lining, used as a lintel opening during the Baroque rebuilding. The moulded cornice of an unknown opening in the east wall of the north-east room still survives from before the Baroque rebuilding, when the east extension was not yet standing there. The south-west corner of the north-east room is filled by a large rounded fireplace decorated with a moulded cornice around the perimeter. Along with it, a new tall chimney was built in the Baroque period. Remains of the cornice are preserved in the attic with the high historic truss of the mansard roof. The roofing consists of galvanised sheeting from the turn of the 19th-20th century with ventilation openings with ornately moulded wrought-iron elements. The facades are horizontally articulated by a profiled crown cornice and vertically by corner quoins. The openings are framed by architraves with moulded cornices above the windows. In the mid-19th century the curacy was owned by Eleonora Berzeviczy, who is the first known owner.

The Renaissance courtyard is part of the Šariš Castle Road.
