The local part of the town of Veľký Šariš Kanas is only 10 kilometres away from the town of Prešov and is a natural attraction that is worth discovering. The whole village is surrounded by forest, where you can experience the soul-pleasing silence and peace.
A large part of the Kansas forests is part of an area of European importance called Fintic slopes, which predominantly includes beech and fir-beech flowery forests as biotopes of European importance. The contiguous forest cover is home to forest animals such as foxes, roe deer, wild boar and pheasants.
That is why the oak forests are teeming with life. Kanas is also important from the point of view of hiking, as it is crossed by a red marked The Way of the Heroes of the SNP, connecting Dukla with M.R. Štefánik's cairn at Bradla in the west of the republic.
Start at „Forest nature trail Stráže” you will find at the final stop „Kanas Stráže“. The trail is well marked. Its length is 3 600 m, has 10 stops, including a display of wood carvings. Before the last stop we recommend to visit the well - the so-called. Eyewitness as the locals call it. *It is said that if you wash your eyes with it, it will have a beneficial effect on your eyesight, plus you can relax and enjoy the silence, even with your eyes closed.
If you come across objects that don't belong in nature during your walk, don't be afraid to bend down, pick them up and take them with you. Nature will thank you.
„I plucked a flower withered, I caught a butterfly, it died in my palm, I understood then that beauty is to be touched with the eyes and the heart.” The Forest Nature Trail „Stráže” begins with such an apt inscription.
