Statue of Sissi, Slovak, Presov, Slovakia

Monument to Empress Sissi

Elisabeth of Bavaria, also known as Sissi, Empress of Austria and Queen of Hungary, wife of Emperor Franz Joseph I., stopped in Prešov after her medical stay in Bardejov Spa in 1895, when she attended a picnic at Sigord and a festive lunch in Salt Bath (nowadays a part of the town of Solivar). In 1901, Prešov citizens unveiled a bust of her in front of the barracks that was named after her. After the establishment of the Czechoslovak state, the statue was removed from the park. For many years it was in an unknown place, later it was placed in the museum's depository. Since 2010, visitors to Prešov can see the statue again, it is exhibited in the southern park on Hlavná Street.
