Brezovica 75, Brezovica, Slovakia

Baroque curio Brezovica

The former town, which has been developing since the 15th century, was once home to an incredible 7 curios, a Renaissance manor house from the 17th century and a synagogue. Today, four of the curios have been preserved and are listed as a National Historic Monument.

On the western edge of the enlarged square stands a striking ground-floor building with a high roof. Originally, the building stood alone, incorporated into the open space with orchard landscaping, so it looks rather non-standard in the current terraced housing. The curia was probably built at the turn of the 17th-18th century and was built under unknown circumstances as a noble residence of one, unidentified side branch of the Berzeviczy family.

The 17th-18th centuries are attested by older types of vaults in the corridor and the middle room of the northern wing. This is also confirmed by the narrow arched bays and the spiky arched arched shape, as well as the stone basement portal, the window on the eastern façade, the Prussian vaults of the rooms and many craft details. The basement is accessed from the south façade by a profiled stone portal. The ornate entrance to even the plain storage rooms testifies to the importance of this curio house.

The Curia in Brezovica are part of the  Šariš Castle Road.
