In the past, the Šariš region formed an important territorial-administrative unit. Thanks to this, a number of royal and noble settlements of both defensive and representative character were established on its territory.
In order to draw attention to these unique monuments, while at the same time promoting tourism in the region, the Regional Tourism Organisation (OOCR) Region Šariš launched its new project last year - Šariš Castle Route.
„Our intention is to highlight the beauty of castles, chateaux, fortifications, manor houses and castles, or town fortifications in the Šariš region. To connect individual objects, to increase the number of visitors and to keep tourists in the region for as long as possible.“, said Branislav Švorc, Executive Director of OOCR Región Šariš.
On the territory of the Šariš region there is more than eighty such monuments. In this project, the OOCR Region Šariš has set itself the ambition to interconnect these unique historical monuments.
Within the framework of the project Šarišská hradná cesta (Šariš Castle Route), it published several promotional materials. The first castle booklet was published with the support of the Ministry of Transport and Construction of the Slovak Republic to promote the visitation of castles in Šariš. It maps the nearest castles and castle ruins in the surroundings of Prešov, as a starting point to the Šariš region. This castle booklet guides the visitor through ten of the most famous castles. It also includes an illustrated map with all the castles in Šariš.
This year OOCR Region Šariš has expanded its collection of promotional materials. Fifteen-page booklet Mansions in the surroundings of Prešov guides the visitor through ten locations with manor houses that are worth visiting. Here you will find the impressive manor house in Hanušovce nad Topľou, the most beautiful Renaissance town palace in the territory of the then Upper Hungary, a noble residence in Fintice, or the splendid residence in Pečovská Nová Ves. The Bedeker is full of high quality photographs, supplemented with brief information, which also includes an illustrated map.
There are more than 60 manor houses, curios or other noble-landed residences in the territory of Šariš. Despite the fact that some buildings disappeared before some were built, all the sites deserve attention. They are an essential part of our history. They are uniformly presented on the internet portal www.sariskahradnacesta.sk. It provides practical and interesting information for visitors with inspiration to spend their free time exploring the Šariš region. Via interactive map with monuments in the region the visitor can plan a route to their knowledge. They will learn the latest information about the Šariš Castle Route project, as well as old and sometimes forgotten stories from the castle ruins.
You can find the castle booklets in the information centres or in selected historical monuments. You can also browse through them virtually via the Šarišská hradná cesta (Šariš Castle Route) internet portal.
Work is currently underway on mobile app as an online guide to the Šariš Castle Route project. It guides the visitor through historical monuments, castles, chateaus, forts, manor houses, curios, town fortifications with a lot of information not only about them, but also about how to get there.
