Tourist information centres in Medzilaborce were preparing for the summer season

On 9 June 2026 on the premises Medzilaborce Town Hall a working meeting of tourist information centres from Prešov Region, combined with a study tour and a specialist programme. The event was organised by Horný Zemplín Regional Tourism Organisation.

A large turnout

The meeting was attended by representatives of the Prešov Self-Governing Region, directors of regional tourism organisations and staff from tourist information centres across several regions. Organisations and TICs from Upper Zemplín, Poloniny, Zemplínske Hámre, Humenné, Stropkov, Svidník, Medzilaborce, Northern Spiš – Pieniny and Stará Ľubovňa were represented.

Preparing for the summer tourist season

The main focus of the event was preparing for the upcoming summer tourist season, sharing experiences between the various tourist information centres, and showcasing activities in the unique The Land of the Rusyns and Andy Warhol. Participants had the opportunity to find out more about tourism products, upcoming activities and opportunities for cooperation between regions.

Inspiration and examples of good practice

During the discussion, a number of examples of good practice from various regions were highlighted – ranging from themed tours, creative activities and regional newspapers to original souvenirs and activities for children. These ideas provided plenty of inspiration for the future work of tourist information centres.

A key takeaway from the meeting was that tourism is not just about information, but above all about emotions, experiences and stories. Tourist information centres play a vital role in connecting visitors, regions and local stakeholders.

We are delighted that such meetings bring regions together, provide an opportunity to share experiences and generate new ideas ahead of the summer season. This is also confirmed by the growing number of signatories to the „Memorandum of Cooperation between Tourist Information Centres in the Prešov Region“, which was initiated last year by the OOCR Šariš region and the OOCR Severný Spiš Pieniny.

The afternoon programme included a visit to the Andy Warhol Museum of Modern Art and the Mini Open-Air Museum in Medzilaborce, where participants discovered the town’s major cultural and tourist attractions.

The working meeting resulted in new contacts, practical recommendations, an exchange of promotional materials and plenty of inspiration for future work. For the OOCR Šariš Region, the event was particularly beneficial in terms of gaining new ideas, establishing partnerships and developing services for visitors to the Šariš region.
