The Prešov–Sigord cycle tour offered a combination of exercise, nature and the history of the Slanské vrchy

On Saturday 15 August 2026 took place a cycle trip from Prešov to Sigord v Slanské hills. The event was aimed at cyclists who wanted to explore the local area Prešov a little differently – from the saddle of a bike, along a route through picturesque countryside Slanské hills.

The trip began in the morning at the Prešov Bike Centre on Rusínska Street, where a get-together over coffee had been organised. The participants then set off on a journey of approximately A 10-kilometre route along The Cycle-Railway towards Sigord. The route had an elevation gain of approximately 125 metres and, given its level of difficulty, was also suitable for less experienced cyclists.

From Prešov along the Cycle Railway

During the ride, participants were able to enjoy a more leisurely pace, woodland sections and the surrounding scenery Slanské hills. The route offered a pleasant combination of exercise and exploring the countryside, gradually leading the cyclists out of the town and into the green surroundings of Sigord.

Stop at the Vláčik rest area

One of the interesting stops along the route was the new rest area Train, which provided a chance to take a short break during the cycle trip. Even these brief stops added a pleasant touch to the route and, at the same time, demonstrated that the area around the Cykloželeznička is gradually developing as a destination for cyclists, tourists and families with children.

During the ride, participants did not merely follow the route itself, but were also able to take in the surrounding natural environment and gradually familiarise themselves with the areas situated between Prešov and Sigord.

The Nature and History of Sigord

On arrival at Sigord The participants were treated to a break by the reservoir and a programme focusing on the area. The trip also included Boat building at the Sigord shipyard, which offered a pleasant way to cool off and a chance to take in the surrounding scenery from the surface of the reservoir.

As well as relaxing, the participants learnt more about the history of Sigord, its current use and future potential. The site plays a significant role not only in the leisure lives of the residents of Prešov and the surrounding area, but also in the wider story of the development of tourism and leisure activities in the Slanské Hills.

The event was accompanied by Renáta Kmecová, Director of the Sigord Society, which gave participants an insight into the area, its history and its potential for further development.

Exercise, nature and an experience
