Volunteering has a firm place in the Šariš region. The proof was also the rich participation in the activities organized during the Volunteering Week 2026, which took place on 18-24 May 2026.
OOCR Region Šariš joined the initiative on Thursday 21 May 2026 through an activity called Revival of the Prešov Calvary.

Help in a place that belongs to the symbols of Prešov
Prešov Calvary is one of the most significant historical and spiritual landmarks of the city. It is a place that is popular not only with the faithful, but also with the inhabitants and visitors of Prešov during walks, trips or moments of relaxation. Its location, views and atmosphere make it a natural part of the region's tourist offer.
That is why the volunteer activity at this place was of special importance. It was not just a matter of helping out in the field, but also of showing a relationship to a space that is important for the local community, the history of the town and tourism.
Volunteering as part of responsible tourism
As the Regional Tourism Organisation of the Šariš Region, we tried to show that tourism development is not only about promoting attractions, events and destinations. It is also important to take care of the places that form the identity of the region.
Prešov Calvary is one of such places. It combines a spiritual dimension, historical value, natural environment and exceptional views of the city. Any activity that helps to keep its environment more beautiful, cleaner and more pleasant for visitors is therefore worthwhile.

Volunteering Week brought several activities to the region
Volunteering Week 2026 offered several opportunities to get involved in the Šariš region. Among the published activities were, for example, the restoration of the Fintice Manor, the improvement of the Sigord area, the preparation of a regional cycling event, helping in the library, creative workshops with seniors or planting annuals in the centre of Prešov.
Such events show that volunteering takes many forms. Sometimes it is physical work in the field, other times it is helping cultural institutions, seniors, communities or public spaces. The common denominator is a willingness to give one's time to something that goes beyond personal gain.

A small deed with a big meaning
Even a few hours of volunteer work can have a visible result. Volunteering Week is an opportunity to show that everyone can make a positive difference in their neighbourhood. Thanks to volunteers, the Prešov Calvary has once again received the attention it deserves as one of the city's landmarks.
