Šariš is not just a region on the map. It is a place full of stories, colourful characters, beautiful countryside, castles, the aromas of local cuisine, folklore, dialects, humour and experiences that are hard to put into words – you simply have to experience them for yourself. And now is the time to show Šariš from a slightly different perspective.
The Šariš Regional Office of the Slovak Tourist Board, in collaboration with Local Nomad, s.r.o., announces the ŠARIŠ REEL 2026 competition, which invites both amateur and professional filmmakers to capture the most authentic, entertaining and interesting aspects of the Šariš region through short videos.

You don’t need to be a professional filmmaker or have expensive equipment. What matters is creativity, originality and the ability to capture people’s attention. Film a short video that shows Šariš as you know it. You could focus on humour, beautiful nature shots, local specialities, folklore, the local dialect, the Rusyn language, castles, traditional costumes, local characters, or simply a situation that anyone who has ever experienced the real East will understand.
Šariš has its own energy, vibrancy and even a touch of its own „madness“. And that’s exactly the atmosphere we want to see in your videos.

The rules are simple
Both professional and amateur creators are eligible to enter the competition. Each entrant may submit a maximum of three videos, with each one being assessed separately.
The video must be filmed in the Reels format (portrait orientation), with a minimum quality of Full HD, and must not exceed 90 seconds in length. The maximum file size is 500 MB.
It is important that it is work of authorship and to ensure that any video, music or other elements used do not infringe copyright or licence rights. Furthermore, the video must not denigrate any section of the population. If other people appear in the video, the author is also responsible for obtaining the necessary consents.
We reward the best ideas
The winners will be decided by a panel of experts, who will assess the videos based on the originality of the idea, the quality of the production, the ability to engage the audience, authenticity and the potential to promote the Šariš region.
And motivation? There’s certainly no shortage of that.
1st place – €500
2nd place – €300
3rd place – €200
The winners will be announced by 7 October 2026.
It’s time to start filming
The competition is about to begin 19 August 2026 and you can submit your video until 30 September 2026, by midnight.
You can submit your competition video together with the completed form TU.
And one more important point – by submitting a video, the creator grants the organiser a free, non-exclusive licence, unlimited in time and geographical scope, to use it for the promotion of the Šariš region. The video may thus be given a new lease of life on social media, the website, in advertising campaigns or during events. Where technically possible, the author’s name will also be credited upon publication.
Šariš through the eyes of those who know it
Perhaps you know a place that only a few people know about. Perhaps you have a grandmother who speaks in such a dialect that it deserves its own headline. Perhaps you know where to find the best langoš, the most beautiful view, the biggest local „lad“, or a story that would be a shame to let fade into obscurity.
Film it. Show it. Send it to ŠARIŠ REEL 2026.
Because Šariš is at its best when it is genuine, distinctive and a little spirited.
