Where to carnival in the Šariš region

These days we are experiencing a season full of fun, dancing and food. Carnival is a time of merriment and feasting, associated with the transition from winter to spring. It lasts from the feast of the Three Kings to Ash Wednesday. This period is one of the merriest times of the year. There are various parties, balls and slaughters, which are associated with a large number of dishes. In villages in the past, there was a tradition of various carnival games in which various magical acts were performed. Young men dressed in various masks would walk in procession through the village, from house to house, and the locals would skewer various foods (bacon or sausage) onto their spits. A typical carnival meal is doughnuts (kreplach) fried in lard. After the last carnival party, it was customary to bury the basa to symbolise the end of the period of feasting, dancing and singing and the beginning of the 40-day Easter fast. In the Šariš region you have the opportunity to take part in several carnival festivities. The long-awaited carnival festivities in Prešov, the Šariš carnivals in Veľký Šariš or Sabinov and various killing feasts.
Carnival festivities
In Prešov, you can look forward to a carnival parade of folklore groups from the Prešov region, full of dancing and singing along the Main Street. You will enjoy great food and a performance by the Basawell band. Šariš carnival
In Veľký Šariš there is an equally interesting programme prepared for you. Šarišske gavaľire and FS Sabinovčan will perform. Children from the kindergarten and primary school in Veľký Šariš will also perform with the programme. During the programme you can enjoy the specialties of the killing. Carnival in Sabinov
The last of the trio of carnival events in the region is the Fasiangy in Sabinov. A cultural programme awaits you here as well. A carnival masquerade through the town and in the afternoon a cultural programme in which FS Sabinovčan, DFS Sabiník with dancing and singing will perform. At the end you will also take part in the burial of the bass. From 15:00 the BRAVO group will perform. During the programme, you can buy killing specialties.
