Ceremonial opening of the Tourist Information Centre in Prešov

The Tourist Information Centre was established in Prešov at 67 Hlavna Street. It is available for citizens and visitors of our city every working day in the summer season, from 9.00 to 18.00 and on Saturdays from 9.00 to 14.00. The opening hours will be adjusted in the winter season.    The Tourist Information Centre (TIC) is administered by the Regional Tourism Organisation (OOCR) Región Šariš. It was established on the site of the former Municipal Information Centre at 67 Hlavná Street in Prešov. The aim was to modernize and expand the offer and scope of the Tourist Information Centre Region Šariš as a gateway for visitors not only to the city of Prešov, but also to the entire region of Šariš and the Prešov region.  The validity of this information centre was already proven during its trial operation in the first summer season, when the city of Prešov hosted the Festival of Catalan Culture. The City of Prešov contributes almost 100 % of the financing of this centre, and we contribute the highest amount to the operation of the entire OOCR within the region. I am very pleased that, according to the available data, this year we should be back to the level of the years before the pandemic and the number of visitors to the city of Prešov should be somewhere around 90,000 overnight stays again, which will bring more funds to the OOCR budget. I also thank our partners and the municipalities that are part of the OOCR. I hope that they will use this space to promote events in the region," said the President of the OOCR, "We are very pleased to see that we are able to promote the events in the region." said the Mayor of Prešov František Oľha.      At the beginning of 2024 the premises underwent extensive reconstruction according to the design of the chief architect of the city of Prešov. The renovation included minor structural alterations, painting, revisions to lights and electrical, and overall modernization of the space. New furniture, furnishings and technology were added and the range of gifts and services offered was expanded. The Tourist Information Centre has two employees who guide and advise visitors on how to find their way around the regional town and the region.  Our goal is to provide quality information and services for visitors so that they get to know all the beauties of the region and are happy to come back. The reconstruction was carried out by OOCR Región Šariš and its employees, in cooperation with the City of Prešov, Municipal Services Prešov, s.r.o., Prešov Real, s.r.o., supplemented by local craftsmen. Costs were minimized in the architectural design itself, with maximum use of the original equipment," said Peter Halaj, Executive Director of OOCR Región Šariš.      TIC offers a wide range of services and information to help those interested plan an unforgettable stay in our region. Under one roof, Prešov residents and visitors to our city can find tips on tourist attractions, historical monuments, cultural events, transport links, restaurants and accommodation. There are also maps, brochures and other information materials to help tourists find their way around Prešov and the entire Šariš Region. In the Tourist Information Centre it is also possible to buy various gift and promotional items, postcards, publications about the city of Prešov, the region and Slovakia, souvenirs or tickets for the popular event Discovering Prešov.      From mid-June 2024 until mid-September, more than 3,000 people visited the Tourist Information Centre of the Šariš Region, among whom were local Prešov residents, but tourists from Slovakia. Foreign visitors numbered almost 900, mainly Poles, Czechs and Hungarians, but Prešov was also visited by visitors from Colombia, Australia and Canada.  August was the strongest month during the peak tourist season, when the TIC was visited by approximately 1500 visitors, mainly thanks to the Aplec International Festival of Catalan Culture, which attracted many people to the centre of Prešov.  During the summer season, the TIC staff also encountered untypical questions from visitors who asked, for example, where to find a fortune teller or chimney sweep in Prešov. The TIC premises were also visited by a cyclist who came from the Black Sea to Prešov in 7 weeks. The TIC also cooperates with other regional tourist information centres and supports local producers and manufacturers by selling small goods and merchandising under the Made in Šariš brand.    For more information please visit:
