The signing of the Memorandum opens a new chapter of cooperation between the information centres of the Prešov Region and the Slovak-Polish border region.

The signing ceremony took place on 29 October 2025 in the premises of the House of the Burgher in Stara Ľubovňa Memoranda of cooperation between information centres operating in the Prešov Region and the Slovak-Polish border area. This document creates the basis for long-term, partnership and voluntary cooperation in the field of tourism, joint promotion and sharing of experience.

The initiators of the Memorandum are Regional Tourism Organisation Northern Spiš - Pieniny a Regional Tourism Organisation Región Šariš. The aim of the agreement is to deepen cooperation between the information centres, improve the quality of the services provided, support the professional development of the staff and present the region as a one attractive tourist unit without borders.

„The signing of the Memorandum is an important step towards stopping seeing ourselves as separate points on the map and starting to function as an interconnected system that offers visitors a holistic experience,“ He said Jakub Ondrej, Director of OOCR North Spiš - Pieniny.

„Tourism has no borders. Common communication and coordination will help not only visitors, but also us - the staff of the information centres. Mutual sharing of experience and ideas will move us forward,“ he added Peter Halaj, Director of OOCR Region Šariš.

The symbolism of cross-border interconnection was also taken up by the Izabela Bajorek, director of the Centre of Culture and Reading at the Muszyna University of Culture and Culture: „Recently we had a performance of mirrors in Muszyna, which are located in the castle in Muszyna and in the castle in Ľubovňa. Thanks to them, visitors to both places can see and interact in real time as if they were standing opposite each other. We are connected - and this Memorandum is another step towards an even closer connection between our regions.“

The signed Memorandum does not constitute a legally binding document, but a declaration of common will to develop partnerships, share best practices and seek new forms of cooperation that will contribute to the development of tourism in the Prešov Region and in the border areas of Poland.

The end of the event was in the spirit of the idea: „Tourism is not only about places, but also about the people who give them meaning.“ (paraphrase of an idea from UNWTO - World Tourism Organization)
