International Women's Day in the Šariš region this year was also marked by history, inspiration and discovery. The thematic event Discovering Prešov this time introduced the participants to Veľký Šariš, where we remembered the stories of extraordinary women associated with this city. The theme „Great women of Veľký Šariš“ offered a glimpse of women who have left their mark on the history of the region with their lives, courage and creativity.
The event combined a walk through the town with a talk about the past and local stories that often remain hidden in historical sources or memories of the inhabitants. Participants had the opportunity to learn interesting facts about the life of Elena Lackova a St. Kunhuty, who were important personalities of local life.
The event was also a symbolic celebration of International Women's Day - a reminder that there are many strong women's stories in regional history that are worthy of attention. Their fates are proof that women played an important role not only in families but also in the cultural and social life of the region.
Compelling stories of life Elena Lackova a St. Kunhuty we were guided by A. Sivaničová and husband and wife D. and J. Sabol. During the discovery we also visited the chapel of St. Kunhuta, which was founded in the middle of the 16th century. It is open to the public only sporadically and we had the opportunity to see its interior.
Series Discovering Prešov regularly introduces new topics and places that help to discover the history of Prešov and its surroundings from different perspectives. Thanks to such meetings, visitors can get to know the Šariš region more deeply - through the stories of the people who lived here and created its unique atmosphere.
The exploration will continue in the following months and will offer new topics that will once again bring closer interesting chapters from the history of Prešov and its surroundings.
