5 tips for autumn trips with children in the Šariš region

  • Miklusz the Goblin's Fairytale Trail 

In the village Miklušovce children are located nature trail inspired by the story of Miklus the leprechaun. At the individual sites, you will gradually get to know the whole story and learn to whom we owe the forest that flourishes here today. You will have a very interesting walk in a moderately difficult terrain with a length of approximately 4.6 km, with beautiful views and scenery. Simply, a little piece of hidden paradise on earth.   • Opal Mine Nature Trail

The Opal Mine Trail in Dubník is a unique place where you can learn about the history of the mining of Slovak opal, which is one of the oldest known opals in the world. The trail leads through 14 thematic stops and offers a view of the natural beauty of the Slanské vrchy Mountains, local fauna, flora and the history of opal mining, which dates back to the 16th century. The route is easy, suitable for families with children, and provides an interesting experience for all lovers of nature and history.    

  • Šariš Castle

Šariš Castle offers beautiful views of the entire Šariš region and an interesting insight into history, making it a popular destination for families. The climb up to the castle is easy and suitable for families with small children and a carriage. Along the way you will find information boards, a gazebo and benches, which are ideal for relaxing and observing the local fauna. The walk up the hill to the castle itself takes approximately 45 minutes.    

  • Cave of the Bad Hole

Families with children will enjoy a real adventure in the Evil Hole Cave with headlamps, which adds a mysterious atmosphere to the tour. Children can learn more about bat life, natural formations and archaeological finds while moving around the safe spaces of the cave. Such a visit is both fun and educational for them as they learn about natural processes and life underground in an interactive way.    

  • Lachnov Canyon

Lačňovský canyon is a beautiful natural place suitable for a family trip, where you will be enchanted by the wild nature and picturesque views. The canyon walk offers easy but adventurous terrain with cascades, waterfalls and narrow gorges that are interesting for children. There are designated spots along the trail where families can picnic or relax, but it's a good idea to bring your own equipment for grilling.
