Do you know what sort of things usually went on at the castle and what was used as building material in the castle walls? Kapušiansky Castle ?
On Sunday 19 July, the village of Kapušany came to life with an event showcasing the product range Šariš Castle Route entitled Experience castles in a different way, which combined history, exercise, crafts, music and enjoyable moments in the countryside, and showed that a visit to the castle can be so much more than just an ordinary tour
Guided tour of the castle
The group tour began in the car park below Kapušany Castle. During the guided tour, visitors had the opportunity to learn about interesting facts and the basic history of the village of Kapušany and the castle itself.
The importance of the sustainability of the ecosystems surrounding the castle hill in Kapušany and the significance of the conservation area in that location were also highlighted.
A packed programme for young and old alike
After climbing up to Kapušiansky Castle, visitors were treated to a varied programme of events suitable for all ages.
Among the most popular activities was an introduction to archery. Participants learnt about basic archery techniques, the historical use of the bow and various types of arrows. A brief expert presentation was followed by a practical session, during which both children and adults were able to test their skills. The younger visitors often surprised everyone with their accuracy and confidence whilst shooting.
Leather craft workshop He introduced visitors to traditional craft techniques and methods of leatherworking. Participants were able to choose from a range of materials and decorative motifs, whilst observing the individual steps involved in cutting, shaping and decorating. The result was an original leather bracelet created to suit their own taste. Among the most popular were floral and heart motifs.
The new one was also available for testing coin die, which served as a lovely memento of the visit Kapušany Castle. The result was a set of custom-minted coins featuring a relief of the castle.
Guided tour of the castle and climb up the castle tower
This was followed by a guided tour of the castle and a climb up the castle tower. The reward for the climb was magnificent views of Kapušany and the wider surrounding area. It was also possible to catch a glimpse of Šariš Castle and other castles belonging to Šariš Castle Road in our region.
A barbecue with a demonstration of wind instruments
A lovely part of the programme was a barbecue with friends, which offered visitors a place to relax, enjoy refreshments and hold informal meetings within the castle grounds. The atmosphere of the event was also enhanced by a demonstration of wind instruments. Participants were able to familiarise themselves with their sound, how they are played and their use in traditional music.
A Slavic hillfort and a workshop on beekeeping
The trip continued with a visit to Slavic hillfort below the castle, where the participants also discovered a magical little lake with a unique ecosystem.
The programme concluded with a workshop on beekeeping. Visitors learnt interesting facts about the lives of beekeepers and tasted genuine, locally produced honey.
„Experience castles in a different way“ has introduced a concept in which the castle serves as a starting point for exploring the entire region. It links the historic site with the village’s history, the natural environment, traditional culture and local producers. Visitors thus take away from their trip not just a visit to the castle, but above all a vivid experience of the region.
The event was aimed at the general public, including families with children, and showcased the potential of experiential tourism in the Šariš region. The next phase of the project Experience castles in a different way It’s scheduled for September. Don’t miss it!
