History is not a science, it is an art that needs imagination - said French poet Anatole François Thibault. To promote imagination and especially to promote tourism Regional Tourism Organisation Región Šariš (OOCR) continues to promote the uniqueness of its region. „Our intention is to highlight the beauty of castles, chateaus and manor houses in the Šariš region, connect individual objects, to increase the number of visitors and to keep tourists in the region for as long as possible.“, said Branislav Švorc, Executive Director of OOCR Región Šariš. OOCR Region Šariš is therefore starting with its new projects tourism, which will also take place in cooperation with the regional tourism organisation North-East of Slovakia. This project will link all points of interest (castles, chateaus, manor houses, curios) and will be presented under a single name - Šariš Castle Route. You will also recognize this project by its original logo, created by a graphic designer and visual communication guru Svetozár Šomšák.

The sixteen pages of the booklet will guide you through the ten most famous castles, which are also known for their attributes. For example, the second largest castle Šariš, the most diverse Soľnohrad, the most distinctive Kapušiansky castle, the most charming Obišovský castle, the smallest Lipovský castle, the mysterious castle Plaveč or the stone-beautiful castle Zborov, or the rediscovered castle Šebeš.

The castle booklet about castles in the surroundings of Prešov is only the first swallow. The next step will be its virtual form - create internet portal www.sarisskahradnacesta.sk or later also a separate mobile application. These online tools will also contain information about other castles that didn't fit in the brochure, as well as about castles that have disappeared, history, the present, but also rumours and facts that you didn't even know about. The ambition of the project of the regional tourism organisation Región Šariš is linked concept Šariš Castle Road with other monuments such as manor houses, fortifications, castles, castles or town fortifications. These are located in the territory of the Šariš region more than fifty-five. By combining them, you will have a comprehensive idea and the opportunity to get to know several monuments per day, learn about their history, stories and owners, or participate in various events, from the opening of summer seasons, castle games to various multi-genre festivals. The first castle booklet within the project „Šariš Castle Route“ was published with the support of the Ministry of Transport and Construction of the Slovak Republic to promote the visitation of castles in Šariš.
