Come and experience the unique pre-Christmas atmosphere in the centre of Prešov!
The most beautiful holidays of the year will be welcomed at the Christmas markets in Prešov in two dates, from 25.11. to 23.12.2024 and from 26.12. to 31.12.2024. The Prešov Christmas market will be opened on St. Catherine's Day on 25 November 2024 and will last until 23 December 2024. After a two-day break, it will then continue from St. Stephen's Day on 26 December until New Year's Eve on 31 December 2024. It is the second-longest Christmas market in Slovakia within the regional cities. „The Prešov Christmas Market is a traditional event during which we welcome thousands of visitors in the centre of our city every year. Our goal in cooperation with PKO Prešov is to bring something extra to people every year besides good food and music. This year, for example, it will be the Children's New Year's Eve,“ said the Mayor of Prešov František Oľha. The stage on the Main Street will again this year be located in front of the St. Nicholas Cathedral and will be directly connected to the gastronomic zone. Visitors can thus enjoy Christmas delicacies in comfort, with a view of the programme on the stage, on which a number of artists will perform. The band will perform BDHS, Voising, Vlasta Mudríková, Janais, Martin Harich, Milenky Band, Rusnack's, Basawell and Katka Koščová.
On the Main Street in the centre of the city, during the Christmas market, there will be almost 70 stalls with a number of local craftsmen and sellers of Christmas goods, drinks and various gastronomic products. The Christmas markets in Prešov will sell for example leather and wooden products, jewellery, clothes, bedding, slippers, gloves, gingerbread, gingerbread houses, spices, candles, toys, books, Christmas trees, sports textiles, decorations and much more.
At the same time, no one will go hungry or thirsty in the heart of Šariš. Visitors to the market will be able to enjoy langos, doughnuts, grilled specialties, cakes, doughnuts, meat products, grilled cheeses, cotton candy, popcorn and desserts. They can also warm up and meet friends with fragrant punch, mead, mulled wine and other traditional alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.
There will also be one gastro stand with drinks and snacks on Florianova Street and in South Park. There will be a Christmas corner away from the busy pedestrian zone where visitors will be able to relax.
„We are glad that this year there is also a great interest in selling at the Prešov Christmas Markets. Our goal is to offer the most varied range of handicraft goods. These will be complemented by traditional and new gastro vendors, while our aim is to create space for local vendors. I believe that the Christmas markets will be visited repeatedly by the citizens of Prešov and visitors from the region, thus actively contributing to the exceptional atmosphere in the centre of our city.“ said the director of PKO Barbora Rusiňáková.
Traditionally, the Christmas market in Prešov will also have its place Charity and Mayor's Punch. Each year, the profits from the sale of this punch are donated to support those who need it most.
On weekdays and Saturdays, merchandise stands will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., and refreshment stands will be open from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. On Sundays, all vending stands will be open from 12:00, the merchandise stands will be open until 19:00 and the refreshment stands will be open until 22:00.
Christmas markets in Prešov will also be decorated with traditional wooden carved nativity scene by author Juraj Antoňák in the usual place in front of the cathedral.
Children's markets will delight especially our little ones. Carousels, sweet pancakes, soft punch, stalls with children's goods and attractions will be located in the southern part of the pedestrian zone, near the statue of the horse. The children's zone will continue to the South Park, where this year visitors can admire the Christmas tree avenue, which will be decorated with hand-made decorations by pupils of Prešov primary schools. Small Christmas trees will also be placed around St. Nicholas Cathedral. One of the attractions will be a carousel with hand-powered wicker baskets, which is designed for younger children. The advantage is that parents operate the carousel themselves.
The main Christmas tree in front of St. Nicholas Cathedral will be lit traditionally on St. Nicholas Day. All children and parents are invited to a children's program on 6.12.2024 from 16.00. St. Nicholas will visit us and bring all the children a great gift - an interactive children's performance The Chumpels.
Gladiator and DJ Mark Dann will be playing at the downtown Stephen's Party on December 26, 2024.
The Christmas market in Prešov will close on 31 December. We will start celebrating the last day of the year 2024 at half past four in the afternoon during the Children's New Year's Eve, which is a novelty this year. At 3:30 p.m., the duo PACI PAC will perform and dance for all children and their parents at a big children's party in the city centre with various attractions.
We will celebrate the arrival of the New Year in Prešov with great music and entertainment, without fireworks or other alternative productions. Just before midnight the band OuOus will perform and after midnight DJ STEV:ON will entertain people on the square.
