Prešov's Carnival 2026 brought music, masks and traditions

On Saturday, 14 February 2026, the city centre of Prešov was transformed into a colourful venue of the traditional Fasiang festivities. The main street came alive with singing, dancing, music and typical carnival gaiety, which annually recalls the richness of folk customs and regional traditions.

The event was prepared by PKO Prešov in cooperation with the city of Prešov and brought a programme for all generations. Visitors could enjoy folklore performances, a parade of masks, traditional music groups and a tasting of carnival specialties. The atmosphere was completed by original masks - from traditional characters to modern and creative costumes, which delighted children and adults alike.

The carnival is a time of joy, abundance and a symbolic farewell to winter. In Prešov, this custom once again proved to be a living part of the cultural heritage of the Šariš region. Many visitors came in masks and joined the parade, creating a spontaneous and authentic atmosphere that brought the community and guests together.

There were also accompanying activities for families with children, themed stalls and a musical programme that carried through the city centre until the early evening hours. The carnival festivities once again confirmed that traditional events have their firm place in Prešov and can attract hundreds of visitors every year.
