Where to go on winter trips in the Šariš region

With the arrival of the winter season, the Šariš region opens up new opportunities for discovering natural beauties, breathtaking views and places for active relaxation. Whether you are a lover of hiking, natural sights or active sports, Šariš will welcome you with a rich offer of activities. Here is an overview of interesting places that should not be missing from your winter programme.

1. Skating on the Sigord reservoir

When frosts produce a solid icy surface, in the area of the Sigord reservoir is the possibility of natural skating. Skating safety is taken care of by the association Chavargy, which regularly measures ice thickness and reports on conditions on social media (Facebook and Instagram - Sigord Boathouse). In addition to free services such as snow blowers, hockey goals and skating equipment for children, skates can be rented for a fee. Visitors can enjoy hot tea, hot chocolate or mulled wine at the cafeteria by the reservoir. On weekends and holidays, evening skating is also on offer until 19:00. Around the reservoir runs nature trail, which is also accessible in winter and has a length of 1 km. The trail is equipped with benches overlooking the water and three information panels about the fauna of Sigord. Winter boots and caution are recommended when walking through the slightly exposed terrain.

2. Čergovský Minčol

The Minčol peak with an altitude of 1157 m is the highest point of the Čergov Mountains and was declared a National Nature Reserve in 1986 to protect the typical Carpathian flora. Marked hiking trails, which are accessible even in winter, will guide you through this beautiful area full of silence and the majesty of nature. The most popular routes lead from the villages of Kamenica, Kyjov or Šarišské Jatrabie. In winter there is a lot of snow and often windy. In good sunny weather you can see the High Tatras.

3. Lookout tower under the peak of Balažka

The lookout tower below the top of Balážka at 598 m above sea level is located with a breathtaking view of Lipany, Kamenický hrad and the ridge of Čergov. Two circuits are accessible - the circuit of the Small Rock with a viewpoint at the cross, the Italian well and a geological microverse, and the circuit of the Big Rock, which leads along the ridge of Balazka. The easy route from the polder to the lookout tower takes about 40 minutes.

4. Relax even during cold days in Aquapark Lipany

Even if the temperatures drop below zero, Aquapark Lipany remains a place where you can warm up and enjoy a well-deserved rest. The thermal pools with pleasantly warm water are an ideal refuge from the winter chill. Thanks to the mineral composition of the water, you will not only relax, but also boost your health - the beneficial effects of the thermal springs will be especially appreciated by your joints and muscles. In addition to the pools, wellness services such as saunas and massages await you. For families with children, there are fun water attractions for everyone.
