The „Salt's Nature“ Info Trail revealed the richness of the history and nature of the Slanské hills

On 9 September 2025, a special info tour „Salt's Characteristics“ took place, aimed at presenting the tourist potential of the Slanské vrchy subdistinction. The event was attended by tourism stakeholders who were looking for new opportunities to enrich the tourist offer. The Inforoute is part of a cooperation project between OOCR Region Šariš, OOCR Horný Zemplín and OOCR Visit Košice, which has been meeting since last year with the aim of creating joint products for domestic and foreign tourists and the MICE sector. It was during these meetings that the project „The Salt's Characteristics“ was created, the pilot version of which has just been completed by the participants. The project was evaluated by the Ministry of Tourism and Sport of the Slovak Republic as an example of good practice and cooperation.     Participants had the opportunity to visit several important places, where guides gave them a detailed introduction to the history, culture and nature of each place. A tour of the Šóoš mansion in Hanušovce nad Topľou gave an insight into the life of the local nobility and also revealed the historical significance of the mansion in relation to trade and the administration of the salt roads, with architectural details making this monument unique. Afterwards, the group went on a climb to the Zbojník Castle (Soľnohrad) in Ruská Nová Ves, where the participants learned about the history of the castle and its importance for the Šariš region. Lunch and discussion in Prešov provided a space for sharing experiences and ideas for improving tourism services in the region. A guided tour at the Solivar Museum offered visitors a fascinating insight into the history of salt mining and processing and its role in the life of local communities, complemented by the opportunity to purchase original souvenirs. The info tour continued in the village of Vlača, where participants watched a demonstration of traditional bread preparation and tasted freshly baked products, thus combining history with local traditions.    The „The Salt's Character“ info tour confirmed that the Slanské vrchy subdestination offers visitors a rich combination of history, natural beauty and cultural experiences. The participants appreciated the expert guidance of the guides, the wealth of new information on the functioning of the individual sites and gained valuable inspiration on how the tourist offer could be made even more attractive.   This pilot product will be offered to tourists in the future so that they can experience a journey „in the footsteps of salt“ - from history and nature to castles and the cultural traditions of the region, which bears a centuries-old salt history.
Realized with the financial support of the Ministry of Tourism and Sport of the Slovak Republic.
