Whilst Odysseus’s wife, Penelope, remains surrounded by uninvited suitors who, by winning her hand, would gain the throne of Ithaca, her son Telemachus can no longer bear to stay at home without any news of his father. In the second and third books, he therefore sets out to find him. Together, we shall follow the beginning of his initiation and ask ourselves why *The Odyssey* does not begin with the famous hero’s journey, but with that of his son.
Come and explore The Odyssey in good company and read it with understanding. An expert tutor, Dr Ján Hreško, will draw your attention to aspects of this ancient tale that usually remain hidden on a first reading.
