March Women's Day in Veľký Šariš will be commemorated by discovering women whose names are linked to this town - St. Kunhuta and Elena Lackova. After more than half a century, we will take a look into the precious Gothic sacral monument - Chapels of St. Kunhuta, the only one in Slovakia under the patronage of this saint. You will learn not only the story of the extraordinary medieval ruler and saint Kunhuta Luxemburg, but also the history and symbolism associated with this exceptional place. We will also pay attention to the Velkošariš native, the first Roma writer and tireless activist, Elena Lackova. Her difficult but inspiring fate will be brought closer to us in the local library thanks to her autobiography I was born under a lucky star.
You can also get to know the story of Elena Lackova and the Chapel of St. Kunhuta if you come on Sunday 8 March 2026 at 14:00* to St. James Square in Veľký Šariš. Dominik Sabol and Andrea Sivaničová will accompany the event.
