Peter - Petro Trochanovský, known by the pseudonym Petro Murjanka is Lemko
poet, novelist, playwright, journalist, editor, translator and activist. He was born
a few weeks after his parents were forcibly resettled from the village of Bilcareva in Lemkovina during
the well-known Visla Campaign. He is a long-standing organiser of cultural activities aimed at national revival
A Lemko (Rusyn) and an active member of the Lemko Society in Poland. Between 1972 and
In 1989, he was a soloist with the Lemkovina ensemble. In 1976, he returned to Lemkovina and, from that year onwards,
Since 1992, he has been living in the spa town of Krynica, where he leads a church congregation and serves as a deacon at
in the Orthodox parish and as a teacher at the Lemko language school. He also works as
editor of the periodicals: "Holos Vatry", "Besida", "Lemkivskyj kalendar", "Lemkivskyj’
"ričnyk". He made his literary debut in 1971. His first collection of poems was published in 1984
"Suchyj badyľ"; his other collections included: „Jak sokol vode z kamienia“ (1989) and the collection
Planetniky (2002). He translated the works of A. Mickiewicz, I. Słowacki and I. into the Rusyn language.
Franka, Ľ. Štúr. The author’s other works were published under the titles: "A Wisla dalej plynie"
(2007), "Songs and Ballads by Peter Murjanka" (2012). For his literary work, he was
recipient of the A. Duchnovič Prize. He was also awarded two Polish state
awards – the Silver Cross of Merit (2013) and the Gold Cross of Merit
(2022).
