La\u010dnovsk\u00fd Canyon<\/strong>, also known as La\u010dnov Gorge<\/strong> or the La\u010dnovsk\u00fd Stream Gorge, is one of the most interesting natural sites in the \u0160ari\u0161 region. It is situated in the north-eastern part of the Branisko Mountains, between the village of Lipovce and the hamlet of La\u010dnov. The canyon was formed by the La\u010dnovsk\u00fd Stream as it gradually carved its way through the dolomite and limestone bedrock. The result is approximately A 2-kilometre-long rocky gorge<\/strong> with a host of striking rock formations, rapids and waterfalls. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rock faces, waterfalls and natural formations<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The La\u010dnov Gorge is part of Kamenn\u00e1 Baba National Nature Reserve<\/strong>, which protects the area\u2019s exceptionally valuable geological, geomorphological and biological features. The steep rock faces reach heights of up to approximately 100 metres in places. The action of water and the weathering of rocks have created bizarre rock formations here, which are among the greatest attractions of the entire site. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among the best-known formations are Moses\u2019 pillar<\/strong>, a striking rock tower approximately 60 metres high. Other prominent features include Stone Baba<\/strong>, rock eye Gatehouse<\/strong> and a rock formation Chimney<\/strong>. In the narrowest parts of the gorge, the La\u010dnovsk\u00fd stream forms rapids and a series of small waterfalls. It is precisely this combination of water, rocks and the forest setting that gives the canyon a character reminiscent of the famous gorges of the Slovak Paradise. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hiking through the La\u010dnovsk\u00fd Canyon<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The La\u010dnovsk\u00fd Canyon is accessible via on a signposted footpath<\/strong>. One of the main starting points is the village of Lipovce, from where the route continues through the Lipovce Valley towards the gorge. The entire walk through the canyon is approximately 1.8 kilometres long and, according to the regional tourism portal, takes just under an hour. The path winds through rugged terrain and is equipped in several places with metal steps, ladders, footbridges and safety chains. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

When walking along this route, bear in mind that the footpath runs right alongside the stream in places, and in some sections it is necessary to to cross its bed or to traverse rocky terrain<\/strong>. The most challenging section is the end of the gorge, which climbs towards the meadow in front of the hamlet of La\u010dnov. Given the nature of the terrain, sturdy walking boots are recommended, and extra care should be taken, particularly after rain or when the water level is high. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kamenn\u00e1 Baba and the Legends<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

There is also a folk legend associated with the gorge about Stone Babe<\/strong>, according to which a woman who wanted to throw her stepchild off a cliff was turned to stone. According to another regional legend, the rock formation is linked to the tragic story of two lovers. It is precisely these stories and the names of the rock formations that lend the La\u010dnov Canyon its distinctive atmosphere. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A trip around the La\u010dnovsk\u00fd Canyon<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

A visit to the gorge can be combined with other attractions in the vicinity of Lipovce and La\u010dnov. Nearby, there is\u00a0Zl\u00e1 diera Cave<\/a>, Srdie\u010dko Viewpoint<\/a>, remains Lipovsk\u00fd Castle<\/a> and the village of La\u010dnov, with its traditional folk architecture. Another place of interest is\u00a0The La\u010dnov Gravity Anomaly<\/strong>, which creates an optical illusion whereby objects appear to be moving uphill.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The La\u010dnovsk\u00fd Canyon thus offers a combination of hiking, geological points of interest, rock formations and places steeped in legend<\/strong>. Thanks to its relatively short length, it is also suitable as a standalone trip, but when combined with other sites in the area, it can form part of a full-day itinerary taking in the natural and cultural attractions of the \u0160ari\u0161 region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
