They hide the immense power of nature, produce oxygen, reduce temperature fluctuations, beautify the environment or shade busy places. In addition to their usefulness, they are linked to history, culture and many customs that have been preserved to this day. The \u0160ari\u0161 region is home to several rare and interesting trees that will enchant you with their beauty, size or age.\n\n<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\n<em><strong>PRE\u0160OV PLANE TREE<\/strong><\/em>\n\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-7497 size-medium\" title=\"Sycamore tree, Photo: city of Pre\u0161ov\" src=\"https:\/\/www.regionsaris.sk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Platan_javorolisty_Zdroj_Mesto_Presov-189x300.jpg\" alt=\"Platan javorolisty, Foto: mesto Pre\u0161ov\" width=\"189\" height=\"300\" \/>\n\nThe mighty crown of the tree with the botanical name <strong>Sycamore Platanus<\/strong> (Platanus acerifolia), situated near the Florian's Gate, closes the main axis view from the centre of Pre\u0161ov towards the west.\n\nThis ancient, <strong>29 metres high<\/strong>\u00a0The plane tree was planted at the end of the 19th century. The exact age of the tree is unknown, but it is estimated to be approximately 150 years old.\n\n\u00a0\n\n\u00a0\n\n\u00a0\n\n\u00a0\n\n\u00a0\n\n\u00a0\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><em><strong>GINKGO IN THE GARDEN OF ART IN PRESOV<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-7493 size-medium\" style=\"font-weight: bold;\" title=\"Ginko in the Art Garden, Photo: OOCR RS\" src=\"https:\/\/www.regionsaris.sk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Ginko_v_zahrade_umenia_zdroj_OOCR_RS-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"Ginko v Z\u00e1hrade umenia, Foto: OOCR RS\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" \/>\n\n<strong>Ginkgo biloba<\/strong> (lat. Ginkgo biloba) is a tree specimen that is a botanical jewel in the green system of the city.\n\nIt is considered an unusual representative of the plant genus. Biologically <strong>it is neither a coniferous nor a deciduous tree<\/strong>. However, it is taken as evidence of their evolutionary interconnectedness. It has an ancient lineage. In the geological evolution of the Earth, it was most widespread in the Mesozoic Era. Southeast Asia is thought to be the original homeland of the ginkgo. It was introduced from Japan to Europe in 1730 and was cultivated in the collections of botanical gardens.\n\nA representative of this rare species was introduced to the moat in Pre\u0161ov in the interwar period in the 20th century. The large prastrom survived as if by a miracle. It grew its first years in a beautiful burgher garden. In the socialist period, they decided to build a swimming pool in this area. Fortunately, the tree avoided being uprooted - they were unable to pull it out with its strong roots. To this day it still dominates <strong>the central space of the Garden of Art<\/strong>.\n\n\u00a0\n\n<em><strong>LINDEN AVENUE IN \u017dUP\u010cANY<\/strong><\/em>\n\n<strong> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-7499 size-medium\" title=\"Lime avenue, Photo: village \u017dup\u010dany\" src=\"https:\/\/www.regionsaris.sk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Lipova_alej_Zupcany-300x255.jpg\" alt=\"Lipov\u00e1 alej, Foto: obec \u017dup\u010dany\" width=\"300\" height=\"255\" \/><\/strong>\n\n<strong>Linden avenue<\/strong> belongs to the natural gems of the \u0160ari\u0161 municipality <strong>\u017dup\u010dany<\/strong>.\nIt is <strong>included in the list of natural and cultural monuments<\/strong>.\n\nIn the avenue there are more than <strong>50 trees of the species lime<\/strong>. According to conservationists' estimates, these trees have <strong>more than 100 years<\/strong>. Not only the rich but also the poor liked to walk along the avenue. Today the avenue is lined with new buildings. However, it is worth a visit at any time of the year, either on foot or by bicycle.\n\n<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\n\u00a0\n\n\u00a0\n\n\u00a0\n\n<em><strong>800 YEAR OLD SUMMER OAK IN OAK<\/strong><\/em>\n\n<strong> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-7501 size-medium\" title=\"Oak tree in Dubinno, Photo: TASR\/Milan Kapusta\" src=\"https:\/\/www.regionsaris.sk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Dub_Dubinne_Foto_TASR_Milan-Kapusta-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"Dub v Dubinnom, Foto: TASR\/Milan Kapusta\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/strong>\n\nDubinn\u00e9 is a village which, according to oral tradition, was founded on the edge of an ancient oak forest. <strong>Oak<\/strong> was the most sacred tree for the ancient Slavs. It was dedicated to the thunder lord Perun and impressed with its strength, strength and hardness of wood. The summer oak in the village is <strong>considered to be the oldest tree in Slovakia<\/strong>. It is also <strong>one of the oldest oaks in Europe<\/strong>.\n\nOak has <strong>at least 800 years<\/strong>. Its age can no longer be accurately determined because it is decaying and the oldest part of the tree is irretrievably gone. <strong>The height of the tree today is 25 m.<\/strong>\n\nIn the 18th century, the local inhabitants <strong>in the crown of the tree, the Virgin Mary allegedly appeared<\/strong>.  Out of respect, they attached her image to the trunk of the tree and later built a chapel. In 1913 a fire struck the village. Almost all the houses from the oak down were destroyed, but the oak survived without much damage. In 1995 it was struck and damaged by lightning. The people of Dubin have preserved their oak to this day.\n\n\u00a0\n\n<em><strong>130 YEARS OLD <\/strong><strong>MAMMOTH REDWOOD IN UZOVSKY \u0160ALGOV <\/strong><\/em>\n\n<strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-7503 size-medium\" title=\"Sequoia mammoths, Photo: village Uzovsk\u00fd \u0160algov\" src=\"https:\/\/www.regionsaris.sk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Sekvojovec_mamuti_Zdroj_Uzovsky_Salgov-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"Sekvojovec mamuti, Foto: obec Uzovsk\u00fd \u0160algov\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" \/><\/strong>\n\nIn the 19th century in the village of Uzovsk\u00fd \u0160algov the local noblemen built a manor house with a park. Some trees have been preserved, such as pine, beech and several lime trees. But the most famous specimen of the park is <strong>Protected Mammoth Sequoia<\/strong>. The unique tree is a rare conifer, which is due to its unique occurrence <strong>declared a protected tree in 1989<\/strong>.\n\nThe conifer grew to a height of more than <strong>20 m<\/strong>. Its trunk is massive and straight, the growth is considered to be very symmetrical, with a crown diameter of about 14 m. Its age is estimated <strong>for approximately 130 years<\/strong>.\n\nAccording to the literature, this tree species originally originated in California and was introduced to Europe as an ornamental park tree. Experts estimate that the maximum age of the mammoth redwood can reach up to 4000 years.\n\n\u00a0\n\n<em><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>\n\n<em><strong>\u201eTREE OF LOVE\u201c IN JACOB'S OX<\/strong><\/em>\n\n<strong> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-7511 size-medium\" title=\"Tree of love, Photo: FB Jakubova Vo\u013ea\" src=\"https:\/\/www.regionsaris.sk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Strom_lasky_Zdroj_FB_Jakubova_Vola-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Strom l\u00e1sky, Foto: FB Jakubova Vo\u013ea\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/strong>\n\nSouth above Jakubov\u00e1 Vola is a hill with a distinct plateau and with the local name Hradisko. In the past, during the post-Moravian period, there was a fortified hill fort.\n\nToday, a tree in the village attracts attention. <strong>Tree tended by locals <\/strong>is called as <strong>\u201eTree of Love\u201c<\/strong>, according to the shape in which it grows. In the shape of a heart.\n\nIts colouring during all seasons is breathtaking, as is the idea of the inhabitants to create a piece of love for their village.\n\n\u00a0\n\n\u00a0\n\n<em><strong>320 YEAR OLD SMALL-LEAVED LIME TREE IN LIPANY<\/strong><\/em>\n\n<strong> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-7507 size-medium\" title=\"Linden tree in Lipany, Photo: OOCR RS\" src=\"https:\/\/www.regionsaris.sk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Lipa_Lipany_Zdroj_OOCR_RS-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"Lipa v Lipanoch, Foto: OOCR RS\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/strong>\n\n<strong>The linden tree is a symbol of the Sharis town of Lipany<\/strong>, which, according to historical sources, had this tree in its original name. For the first time\nin documentary records at the beginning of the 14th century as <strong>The Seven Vines - Septemthillis<\/strong>, the Hungarian form of the name was H\u00e9th\u00e1rs and the German Siebenlinden. The municipal coat of arms depicts seven green lime leaves in a silver field.\n\nPeople remember that there were hundreds of trees in the town in ancient times, but they were gradually thinned out. Even today, despite the expansion of development, there are not a few of them. There are several lime trees in the city park in the very centre. However, only one of them is exceptional. Supposedly the last of the seven mentioned in history. <strong>Linden tree is over 320 years old <\/strong>and its <strong>the last petals reach a height of 23 m<\/strong>.\n\n\u00a0\n\n<em><strong>600 YEAR OLD OAK TREE IN GIRALTOVCE<\/strong><\/em>\n\n<strong> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-7509 size-medium\" title=\"Oak tree in Giraltovce, Photo: town Giraltovce\" src=\"https:\/\/www.regionsaris.sk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Dub_Zdroj_Giraltovce-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"Dub v Giraltovciach, Foto: mesto Giraltovce\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/strong>\n\nAmong the highlights <strong>of national importance in Giraltovce include<\/strong> <strong>the oldest summer oak <\/strong>in Svidn\u00edk district. About <strong>600 year old summer oak<\/strong> \u201estands\u201c by the former manor house (by the cultural house), as a remnant of the former manor park. <strong>Protected by law<\/strong> the historic summer oak (Quercus robur), is of natural and historical importance, which makes it noteworthy. <strong>Its trunk circumference is 643 cm and height 17 m<\/strong>. It was planted in the 14th century by a member of the Sz\u00e9chy family, owners of the land on these sites.
