In the middle of the village Medvedie there is a wooden Orthodox church of St. Dimitrij of Thessaloniki, which is one of the cultural monuments of Slovakia. The temple was built in 1903 and its appearance has changed several times during its existence. It was damaged during World War II and later repaired in 1946-1947. Around 1980, it underwent a renovation that significantly changed its appearance. The walls of the church were covered with sheet metal on the outside to prevent the weather from having an undesirable effect on the wooden cladding. Although its appearance was not very appealing and dignified at the time, the cladding of the walls has helped the temple to last until today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In 2009, the reconstruction of the church began with the aim of restoring its original and dignified appearance. By 2010, the plastic cladding in the interior was removed and the boards forming the interior cladding were restored. This was followed by the restoration of the exterior, which took place in 2012-2013. The metal cladding was removed and the church was given new, wooden cladding. The bulky roofing over the church staircase was also removed. The reconstruction of the cladding was followed by the restoration of the roof. The old tin roof was replaced by a copper one. Currently, the wooden floor of the church has been restored and the iconostasis is being restored.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
