Church of St. Basil the Great<\/strong> is a Greek-Catholic church in the village of Krajn\u00e9 \u010cierno in the Svidn\u00edk district.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The three-part log church of St. Basil the Great was built at the end of the 18th century. The exterior of the log cabin is covered with shingles. The roofing is also shingles made of hand-split logs of conifers. The plan of the church consists of three squares arranged in a single line, beginning on the east side with the presbytery, a square nave, and ending on the west with the nave. The width of the nave is identical to that of the nave. In the sanctuary and nave there is a log system of internal arrangement. Both spaces are surmounted by domes in the form of truncated spires. The tower over the nave is approximately the same dimensions as the width of the chancel. The protection of the tower is realized by vertical boards made of coniferous wood and not of shingles as in other parts of the church. These two spaces, separated from each other by the nave, harmonise with each other and create an optically unified system of the whole building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The two-tiered quadrangular tent roof over the nave on the ridge has a small conical roof (not with onion extensions as in Ladomirova, Hunkovce, Bodru\u017eali and Miroli), on which there is a wrought metal cross. The roof over the presbytery is modified, hipped on one side, anchored to the nave, on the ridge with a square superstructure topped with a conical roof with a cross.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The architecture of the church belongs to the Byzantine sacral buildings where the Eastern rite and the Church liturgy of John Chrysostom is performed. The interior of the church consists of a Baroque iconostasis with polychrome wood carvings and icons that were made in the 18th century. There are also icons from an earlier period in the church. The church is enclosed by a wooden log enclosure with a shingled roof. The entrance to the church building is through a gate with a conical roof covered with shingles. The church was restored between 1947 and 1948 and at the beginning of the 21st century.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is noteworthy that at the beginning of the village there is still one wooden church covered with tin roofing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An interesting feature of the wooden churches in the region of Svidnica is that they were built during the reign of Maria Theresa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
