{"id":2523,"date":"2026-01-07T12:45:15","date_gmt":"2026-01-07T11:45:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.regionsaris.sk\/?post_type=nabozensky-turizmus&#038;p=2523"},"modified":"2026-07-30T11:57:19","modified_gmt":"2026-07-30T10:57:19","slug":"bazilika-zosnutia-presvatej-bohorodicky-v-lutine","status":"publish","type":"nabozensky-turizmus","link":"https:\/\/www.regionsaris.sk\/en\/nabozensky-turizmus\/bazilika-zosnutia-presvatej-bohorodicky-v-lutine\/","title":{"rendered":"Basilica of the Assumption of the Most Holy Mother of God in \u013dutina"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Marian pilgrimage site\u00a0<strong>\u013dutina<\/strong>\u00a0It lies (also known locally as Mari\u00e1nska hora) on the southern slope of the \u010cergov Mountains, in the valley of the \u013dutinka stream. \u013dutinsk\u00e1 hora came to public attention as the site of alleged apparitions of St Nicholas. The village has been mentioned since 1330, but it was the apparitions that brought this place much greater attention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-bazilika-zosnutia-presvatej-bohorodicky-v-lutine-lud-ozn-marianska-hora\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">From the history of the basilica<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The Basilica of the Dormition of the Most Holy Mother of God in \u013dutina<\/strong>&nbsp;It was built in 1908 as a single-nave church. Despite the politically difficult situation facing the Greek Catholic Church, a major renovation of the church was carried out between 1981 and 1984. The interior paintings, stained-glass windows, the tabernacle and the icons in the sanctuary are the work of the academic painter Mikul\u00e1\u0161 Klim\u010d\u00e1k.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The ceremonial declaration of this pilgrimage church as&nbsp;<strong>Minor Basilica<\/strong>&nbsp;took place on 27\u201328 August 1988 during the solemn services held as part of the main pilgrimage. It was performed by the then Bishop of Pre\u0161ov, Monsignor J\u00e1n Hirka. Between 2007 and 2009, the basilica was extended to include two side aisles \u2013 the right-hand one also serves as a parish chapel, which is why a restored historic Baroque iconostasis and an altar from the Church of St Paraskeva in Nov\u00e1 Polianka, dating from 1766, were installed there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On 9 June 2010, it was&nbsp;<strong>The Basilica of the Dormition of the Most Holy Mother of God in \u013dutina<\/strong>&nbsp;affiliated with the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome by a special bond of spiritual kinship, with the privilege of plenary indulgences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Changes to the basilica and the completion of the complex&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In July 2013, to mark the 25th anniversary of the local church\u2019s elevation to the status of a minor basilica, the basilica was given a new look in the form of large-scale mosaics depicting the Divine Mercy, Saint John Paul II, the Blessed Martyr Bishops Pavol Peter Gojdi\u010d, Vasil Hopko and Teodor Rom\u017ea, the martyred religious priest Metod Dominik Tr\u010dka, the Wedding at Cana in Galilee, the Good Samaritan and St Faustina. They were created by Fr Kamil Dr\u00e1b CSsR.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since 2013, the basilica has also housed the relics of all the saints and blessed mentioned above, which are incorporated directly into the mosaics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">J\u00e1n Babjak SJ, Archbishop of Pre\u0161ov and Metropolitan, proposed linking the basilica to Mount Liutina via the Path of Light. These are chapels featuring fourteen stations of meditation, from the Feast of the Resurrection to the Feast of Pentecost.
