It is situated at&nbsp;<strong>80A Main Street<\/strong>, at the historic house associated with his stay. The memorial was officially unveiled on 23 April 2024 to mark the 200th anniversary of Pet\u0151fi\u2019s birth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">S\u00e1ndor Pet\u0151fi, whose real name was Alexander Petrovich, is one of the most significant poets of 19th-century Hungarian literature. He became famous not only for his poetry, but also for his participation in the revolutionary movement of 1848\u20131849. His life and work are closely linked to the period of national revival and the formation of modern Hungarian identity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Pet\u0151fi\u2019s visit to Pre\u0161ov<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pet\u0151fi visited Pre\u0161ov in&nbsp;<strong>1845, at the invitation of the poets Frigyes Ker\u00e9ny and Mih\u00e1ly Tompa<\/strong>, who were living in the town at the time. During his stay, he explored Pre\u0161ov and its surroundings. He was captivated by the local countryside, the forests, the hiking trails and the mineral-water spas at Cemjata that existed at the time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The poet\u2019s stay in Pre\u0161ov was not merely a brief stopover. The city and its surroundings became a source of inspiration for his literary work. During his visit, he and Ker\u00e9ny and Tompo also devoted themselves to poetry and jointly organised a competition for the finest lyric poem, the theme of which was to be a small cottage on Wilecov\u00e1 Hill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Bust on Hlavn\u00e1 Street<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Current&nbsp;<strong>a bust of S\u00e1ndor Pet\u0151fi<\/strong>&nbsp;It was created by an academic sculptor&nbsp;<strong>M\u00e1rton Borb\u00e1s<\/strong>. The poet is depicted in a peaceful pose, with his eyes closed and a goose quill in his hands, a reference to his literary work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The bust stands on a light-coloured limestone plinth 150 centimetres high. The text commemorating Pet\u0151fi\u2019s visit to Pre\u0161ov is inscribed on&nbsp;<strong>in Slovak, English and Hungarian<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Places of interest associated with Pet\u0151fi<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The bust on Hlavn\u00e1 Street is not the only monument in Pre\u0161ov commemorating the poet\u2019s visit. On\u00a0<strong>Wilec H\u00f4rke<\/strong> There is a stone memorial on the site where the so-called \u2018Forest Cottage\u2019 once stood. Around 150 steps lead up to the memorial, which was restored by the town in 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pet\u0151fi\u2019s story can thus be explored at several locations in Pre\u0161ov.
