It stretches along the upper reaches of the river&nbsp;<strong>Torysa<\/strong>, among&nbsp;<strong>The \u0160ari\u0161 Highlands<\/strong>&nbsp;and the mountains&nbsp;<strong>Chergov<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The first written reference to the town dates from the year&nbsp;<strong>1312<\/strong>, when Lipany were part of&nbsp;<strong>The Kamenice Estate<\/strong>. According to historical tradition, there used to be a sacred Slavic lime grove within the town\u2019s boundaries. This is the origin of both the town\u2019s name and its symbol&nbsp;<strong>seven lime trees<\/strong>, which still form part of the town\u2019s coat of arms today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Thanks to its location on a major trade route from&nbsp;<strong>They\u2019re heading to Poland<\/strong>&nbsp;Lipany gradually developed and in&nbsp;<strong>the 16th century<\/strong>&nbsp;They were among the largest towns in the \u0160ari\u0161 region. Their subsequent development was adversely affected by a major fire in&nbsp;<strong>1880<\/strong>&nbsp;and population migration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the year&nbsp;<strong>1909<\/strong>&nbsp;Lipany became the administrative centre of the district, which was in&nbsp;<strong>1924<\/strong>&nbsp;moved to Sabinov. The inhabitants originally made their living mainly from&nbsp;<strong>agriculture and crafts<\/strong>, and industrial production began to develop later on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The town recorded its highest economic growth after&nbsp;<strong>the Second World War<\/strong>, when it developed in particular&nbsp;<strong>the textile and engineering industries<\/strong>, as well as education and healthcare.
