The Death Valley

Tanks in nature

The valley is located three kilometers from the town of Svidník, between the villages of Kapišová, Kružlová and Nižná Písaná. In the area there is scattered tank equipment placed in a way as to depict a tank company in the midst of the Battle of the Dukla Pass (October 25-27, 1944). The battle was fierce. The valley of the river Kapišovka witnessed the death of more than 11,000 soldiers on both sides, hence the name Death Valley. Between Nižná Písaná and Kapišová, the destroyed T-34 tanks of the Soviet 12th Tank Brigade were left in places where they were hit by enemy anti-tank weapons. Now, they serve as memorials and a memento of heavy fighting.
